HI folks, new here just arrived today.

Seems I have some questions you folks might be able to help with.

We bought our current home seven years ago. It had a goldfish pond in the back full of fish. It's about a 15' X 8' pond about 18" deep. For seven years I've been fighting this thing, green water, amazingly enough the fish are still alive. A few years ago hurrcane Rita took out the pump house and the filter system, the shade trees and many other things around the yard. The filter system never worked right so it was a blessing. The water wheel stayed in tack (that thing must have been spinning fast with the winds we had)

Any way, it's taken almost three years to get thoing back up to par. I rebuilt the filter system with a debri pump located at the bottom of the pond. It pumps up through a 55 gallon plastic drum that I've put lava rocks in. The lava rocks are in three open weave nylon bags supported above the bottom of the barrel, about eight inches.

Water flows in to the bottom and out the top. So far it seem to be working as I have had to drain and clean it twice in the last few days.

What else can I do to help clear the water?

Green water will not hurt your fish. It's merely an algea bloom. This happens quite often. There are a couple things you can do. One of them is purchasing a UV clarifier that will fit inline with your pump. These sell for $50 and up depending on your pond size,This is the easiest method. Another thing that will help would be to add plenty of plants that will compete with the algea for excess nutrients in your water. Lots of things can lead to the green water. Some reasons are the pond being in full sun, excess feeding of fish. This is an example of a UV clarifier http://cgi.ebay.com/Master-GreenFre...yZ117434QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem and http://cgi.ebay.com/TETRA-POND-GREE...yZ134750QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem never bought anything from this company before, just an example of what one looks like.
