I answered your other topic that kuhlis should be fine. Their mouths are too small to consume any invertebrates lest you have shrimp larva in it. The official name by the way is Pangio. Acanthophthalmus is outdated.
 
Kuhlis would much rather have sand. I've seen my Kuhlis scour the floor after feeding time for more food and I see them sucking up sand with their mouths and blowing it through their gills, I guess this is some sort of filter-feeding.

And your shrimp and fish would be okay.
 
well seeing i already have rocks can i sprinkle them over the sand as the sand i get is quite dark and i think it will look good just a very thin sprinkle for color

also it i want to have it quite heavily planted will sand be ok for that?
