Hello friends! I've been keeping my little 8 gallon biocube now for about 8 months and I realized that I have never replaced my bulbs! I bought the tank used and my friend said the bulbs were about 6 months old then so it's long overdue for a replacement. While looking for bulbs online I came across some of the LED upgrade kits and DIY guides and wondered. I don't have the skill to wire them myself and don't have the cash for one of the kits, or so I thought. I found a guy on eBay that sells kits for 80-100 bucks depending on how many watts for the biocube 8 among other models. He used Dim-able 3w LEDs and includes everything you need. I sent him a few questions and he was very helpful and informative. I ended up asking him to make me a slightly custom kit. 5 white LEDs and 5 blues on seporate dimmers so I can control them independently. He agreed and only changed me for the extra dimmer. (normal $100 kit had 8 LEDs on one dimmer. My custom kit has 10 LEDs on two dimmers) my total came to 125 bucks, not bad for LEDs. Hes shipping it out tomorrow so I will keep you all informed when they come in next week.

He sells them for the biocubes but they could be used for any tank. Just thermal tape to stick them on the reflector. Below are links to the eBay post.

And because most of you won't read the big text block, here's a picture of my tank for the rest of you;p

I have not but I think that you'll like that system on an 8 gallon. While not the "preferred" Cree/Meanwell setup, there are plenty of successes with Bridgelux out there. You definitely want to incorparate fans into that setup (if you don't already). A 1/8" heatsink is not going to help 3W LEDs a whole lot. Congrats on the upgrade!

Glad you guys like the goby and Blenny. There great fish and both show a lot of personality. The goby has a slightly malformed jaw, looks kinda like he got punched in the face to me. He eats fine tho and I've had him for a few months so It dosent seem to slow him down.
