Hi Guys, its been a while since I've been on here, mainly due to everything going really well with my tanks.

I have come up with a question that you may be able to help me with.

The holes in my tank that allow me to pass my inlet / outlet pipes, heater cable and air line are only big enough for 2x 16mm pipes, However I need to add more filters as the twin 2215's I'm currently running, even with 2217 impellers, need a bit more help.

What I have done is connect both inlets via a "Y" piece just after the outlet pipe comes out of the tank, and running it to the two inlets on the pumps. also doing the same on the return pipes to the tank, any other "Y" piece just before it goes back into the spray bar. I was hopping to basically double the flow in and out of the tank on one side, if this works do the same on the other side of the tank. Both filters that i have connected together are the same, 2215's with 2217 impellers.

What in fact seems to be happening is that the flow rate in and out of the tank has halved.

Is what I'm trying to achieve possible, or am I doing something wrong?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!

The engineering matches your experience. Connecting two pumps with properly sized outlets can double the output. Connecting incorrectly, over works the pumps.
More or larger holes are needed.
