I think I've seen my fish "sleep" but I'm not sure what they do for sleep...

I have realized my nocturnals try to get into the shadows during the day...

If you take a light to your tank at night you'll see fish just sitting there (usually toward the bottom( and what they do is just move enough to keep their place in the water. It's pretty interesting to watch

Yeah...they just kind od hang there. Sometimes at slightly funny angles....especially my discus and angels.

My goldfish "sleep". Sometimes I'll see them resting on the bottom, then after turning on the tank light it takes them a little while to wake up. All of a sudden they jerk and start to swim, it's amusing to watch.

My betta full on passes out on the heater sometimes lol. I've thought he was dead numerous times but he always twitches when he sees me and swims to the front for food.

Fish don't sleep in the same context that we sleep. As JPAPPY said, it is more of suspended animation which allows them to react to a predator quickly. During this time, all their functions slow down and allows them to recover and generally get rested. They don't always just sleep at night.

Most of my larger fish rest on the tank bottom and the smaller ones stay suspended somewhere near a corner.

Betta's are excellent nappers ... Until there's a possibility of being fed!

Patrick, a lot of fish also gray out while sleeping then color up just about instantly on waking. It's interesting to see.
