Im upgrading my 40 gallon to a 70 gallon this month. I have been looking in to getting a small group of rams. Well this payday me and my other half had been out window shopping and ran across this little guy/girl.. lovely little fish in a pet shop that should not be selling fish.

Anyway...bought it and brought it home..it is now in QT in a 3.5 gallon tank..i think it is a bit cold for it so im going outside to look threw my bins for a small heater..soo got it yesterday(12/10/11) love its fines!

any Idea on sexing?
or what type it was? It was in a tank with allot of golden rams..but a few were the blues...could it be a mix of the two?

It paled out every time i pulled the cam up..so this is the best i can get for the moment.. maybe it will color up more with some heat and a few more days of good clean water and lots of food...it seems a bit thin to me.
(video to come soon as i can get it off my cam)

bump.....anyone?..

no one at all can help me sex and ID this fish......................?

Male Blue Ram

He/she is a bit skittish at the moment ..came form a horrible tank and had some rough treatment before i got it in to my hands :(

every time i come over to get a pic he pails out and hides, so im trying to not bug him to much..

few questions.

how can I make him more comfortable? ..hes in a 3.5 QT tank with a heater a large clump of pennywort and java moss but with room to swim..floating plants
Tank has been up and cycled for a long time.

is it a long fin?

could it be a gold/blue mix?

what is a good sex ratio when I get more and move him to the 70gallon.
he will be fattened up and in the QT tank for at least a month..his tummy is caved in a bit but has been eating. (treating for parasites today)

Gold Ram blue Ram are the same species.. Mikrogeophagus Ramirezi. the 'Gold' or 'Blue' is just color morph of the same species.
you can sex them by venting or looking at the ovipositor
your appears either young or possibly stressed from the move.. get the temp in the tank up to 80-84.. this will help it get more comfy..
btw sexing the Gold ram does appear easier using the 'vent' method..some of the other tell tale signs may not be as apparent in the gold color morph.

the one in the second picture looks male tho

yeah he is pretty small...so young and stressed maybe...Im hoping some good water and good food will help him color up^_^ temp is rising as we speak
QT will last a month or so before he will be moved to the larger community tank ..its currently a 40 tall but being upgraded to a 70 tall.
