Sorry, I just posted this in the gallery section before thinking for some reason while I was looking at my old thread. Link to thread can be seen in my sig for the 100gal.

Okay, time to revive and old thread.....
I currently have:
1 Yellow Lab
2 Red Tail Black Sharks(one passed a while back, was real lean when I bought it)
2 Jack Dempsey
2 Cobalt Blue
2 Fire Mouth
1 Rhino Pleco(Would like to give it to someone local with adequate tank)
2 Convicts

I'm wanting to add more, if possible to the aquarium. I have more driftwood coming in as well as more Holey Rock. Looking at the LiveAquaria site as far as Cichlids are concerned, I'd like to hear some of your suggestions as to what I could possibly add to the setup. I'll have plenty of caves, rocks, and hiding places for the tenants, lol. I was interested in more color some of these were in mind:

I like these, but weren't sure about size:

Obviously don't think I'd be able to buy a pair of each due to their max size, but would like to have an appropriately stocked tank. I'll be adding more sword plants as well to the tank as my current ones have survived just fine. Any input would be greatly appreciated, honesty is welcome, I don't get offended, lol. I'm also aware that some of these fish need to be in appropriate sized groups due to their aggression, and I'd by willing to accomodate/adapt if tank size permits. For example(stating minimun group of 6):

Thank you in advance folks! This site has been a wonderful source of information whether solicited or searched!

I really don't know...you have africans and south americans..i guess it depends on what you are doing.

Well most of what you have now goes toward a SA cichlid tank, but all the fish you posted are Rift Lake cichlids. I would probably choose one direction or the other for the sake of your fish, and rearrange/trim stock accordingly, then look at options for expanding the stocking levels.

Thanks for the further explanation. I feel like a terd as I never had understood the different locations of the fish. I was told(as I found wrong later) was that it was just a matter of keeping Cichlids with Cichlids period. Sorry about my lame question then, lol....

I'll read more into the species and ask from there. Thanks folks!

Haha no problem, at least you're trying to learn and willing to do whats necesary for your fish. Let us know how it goes.

the patterned one is a venustus an african cichlid who get just over 8 inches from what ive seen.

stick with s.a cichlids or sell them and but africans cept for yellow lab duh.

Okay, I'm back, lol....
Was looking online more and have been thinking of making the 100gal all African, Malawian....For the 100, I'm interested in the following(Keep in mind I have 1 yellow lab and 1 demasoni that will be in there already):

Yellow Lab-5"
Moorei-9"
Acei-7"
Cobalt Blue Zebra-5 1/2"
Demasoni-3"
Bublebee-6"

I read about these online, including their aggression and average sizes(Moorei being the biggest). Based on what I saw about their average sizes indicated on sites(next to names), in your opinion, what do you think would be a good grouping to have a well stocked 100? I'll have plenty of driftwood and rock for territory and hiding. I also have some sword plants which have faired extremely well, not having fallen victim to uprooting or nipping.

I did not see any notes on minimum grouping per fish like you see for Red Tail Black Sharks or Mooreii(KaiserII), any info would be appreciated there too if any. Please don't hesitate in being bluntly honest, I don't get offended, lol. In searching the forum, I wasn't able to find a good amount of info for what I was looking for so thought I would ask.

These guys will be going to my 55 gal(I'll save that stocking question for another day, lol) and my two Angels will possibly be getting a new planted 55gal for the baby's nursery:

3 Red Tail Black Sharks
2 Jack Dempsey
2 Cobalt Blue
2 Convicts

Thank You in advance!!!!

Since the other Malawi you listed are all mbuna, I'd skip the Moorei as they're Haps and 100g is too small to mix the two. I definitely wouldn't put Demasoni and Cobalt Blues together in only 100g. Demasoni can be incredibly vicious toward con-specifics, despite their small size. I'd even hesitate to mix them with Acei. They do NOT like any other remotely blue fish. Since you already have one Demasoni, you'll either have to take it back and switch to Cobalt Blues or Acei, or stick with just Demasoni. The Yellow Labs should be okay so long as you get a big enough group of them - they'll be safer in numbers. Some say that Bumblebees are aggressive toward all con-specifics, but I've got Yellow Labs in with mine and they couldn't care less. I think they only really have problems with Auratus.

I'd do Demasoni OR Cobalt Blues (NOT both), Yellow Labs, Bumblebees, Red Zebra, and if you really want another type, maybe Snow White Socolofi? You could also get some Synos. Just make sure you keep your stocking levels up, especially if you decide to stick with the Demasoni. You really need decent numbers to dilute the aggression. Also watch your filtration (mbuna need a lot) and keep up on the water changes.

As for the 55g, I personally thing it's far too small for 3 RTBS. I can't comment on the others because I know almost nothing about SA cichlids. The only one I've ever kept was a Red Devil I had years ago.
