Alright well really it says it all right there, but I'll clarify a bit. I'm looking for part numbers A-16001 and A-16000 off of this chart.

I got one when I purchased my 55G tank, but it made a lot of noise. I'm looking to fix this one so that I can go ahead and run 2 filters on it.

I figure $10-15 for it? Please let me know. Someones gotta have one after an upgrade.

you might just need an impeller shaft. Replacing that usually stops mine from making noise. There isn't much in the motor perse that makes noise, ditto on the impeller unless a wing is broken/missing. But screeching/grinding/etc.noises are usually from a grooved impeller shaft. They wear out relatively quickly, especially if you have sand substrate.

Alrighty well I did replace the impeller. Turns out one of my LFSs does actually carry the replacement parts. Their just in the back. Oh well I have it now. That did take care of most of the noise and I'm hoping the rest will diminish with time. If not I'll see about replacing the motor too.

Thanks for the info. This post should be able to be closed though.

you shouldn't need to replace the motor ($30), just the impeller SHAFT. It's the metal rod that runs inside the impeller. It is made of soft crappy metal and gets scored very easily. When it is scored, it will make screeching noises as the impeller runs around it. That's most likely where your residual noise is coming from. It will only get worse with time.

Impeller shafts are hard to find, but cheap ($3).

The motor is just a magnet that powers the impeller. It doesn't have moving parts to make noise. Don't replace it before trying to replace the impeller SHAFT first.

Also if you have sand substrate, put on a sponge prefilter and raise the intake higher.
