Well today I went to my best friends girl friends house. So we go there and she cooked us a nice chicken parm lunch today around 12:00 noon. Anyway I go in the living room to watch wrestling with my friend and I see a 29 gallon fish tank with a huge 10-12'' silver fish barely swimming in there. It was crammed in there with 2 oscars, a pacu, some angelfish, and bala sharks all over 3'' and others.. Anyways I get closer and its a 12'' Tinfoil barb. My friend and I were like **** these girl don't know about fish. So we explain that they need a big tank. So at the end we told her that I have a 150 and that my friend has a 225. So I decided to take the tinfoil barb, and a colmbian shark, and a 12'' bala shark. Come home the 2 sharks are died, but the Barb is living and active. Her water was brown. My friend took the oscars, pacu, the sharks, and limas. We left her with the angels and told her she can't get some tetras and corys. She agreed and I told here she could come join here for more help.
Anyways now the barb is loving the big 150 shoaling with 2 way smaller red tail tinfoil barb buddies and redhooks, etc..
I'll have pics in a moment.

good for you! i wish everyone would listen to reason. i have a neighbor who used to own a pet store. she admits she has never had a fish last more than 2 years. she went out about oh 6 months ago and got herself a nice gallon size bowl, colored marbles, food and a... you guessed it... fancy goldfish. get this she keeps it on her fireplace mantle.

now having experience with animals and knowing her fish never live over 2 years while others have had the same species do well for over 20 yrs you'd think she'd want to do something better. when i told her there was ammonia in the tap water she said... wait for it... "will that hurt my cats or dogs?". when i said probably not but your fish is going to suffer terribly with .75 coming from the tap she said... wait for it... "it's only a goldfish, it'll be fine". the same lady ran into a burning building to save a dog that's been walking in circles, blind and dieing from a respiratory infection for about 10 years. i just don't get it... some people are just ignorant and heartless to something they choose to be their pet. i make her son sneak in there when she isn't around to do w/c's... she has no idea why the water hasn't been filmed over in months. last time we talked about it she said she'd figured it out and doesn't happen anymore. she told me it just needed time to establish... :hypnotized:

good thing that chick was more receptive and didn't take it as an insult.

I know... actually at first she did then we calmed her down.
here are some crappy pics... sorry for quality:

Way to go! I saw something like that a couple of months ago and was pretty let down that she wouldn't listen to me. I think it was two or three oscars and a full grown severum in a 30 something hex. The sev just layed on the bottom barely breathing in the green/brown murky water. She said they have been fine and will be fine and proceeded to show me her new kitten and all its toys.
Good to hear you had better luck and that the tinfoil is in a good size tank.
