37g big enough?

Thanks everyone! I'm going go to my lfs soon and check out what he has far as selection of the cichlids. I'll then relate what he has that I like so that can help on telling me if its good for tank and with whatever fish.

Ok I went to my lfs and I jotted down the fish I like. All these fish were in the Cichlid section so I figured they were all cichlid, so if there not please let me know.

Eletric yellow labido chromis
Lab hongi
Nimbo chromis HAP venustus
PS kenyh (or its kenyll couldn't tell)
Texas cichlid
Rainbow cichlid
firemouth cichlid
Pink and black convict
bubble bee cichlid
PS socolofi
PS demasoni
Tmoorei
Neolamp Brichardi

I did see alot of other I liked as well but I figured let me put this list up first.

You have Central/South American,American, and African cichlids listed.
Start researching which part of the world you want them from. You should not mix them.
And no to the Texas. They grow to over a foot.

Ok thanks for the input on the Texas. I didn't know were exactly they were from, they didn't list any information like that just the name and price.

Rainbow cichlid
firemouth cichlid

I don't keep african cichlids but I can tell you about the new world ones.

Texas cichlids get way too big
A firemouth or convict would be fine, but if the tank is only 30" I wouldn't get more than 1
A rainbow cichlid pair would work, they are peaceful, colorful, and easy to breed.

Africans would go great in a 37.I've never kept them myself, but since you have quite a few listed,I would start to research those. You can break the Africans down to the lakes they come from.Malawi,Tanganyika, and Victoria are the most popular.Google each lake with cichlids at the end,and start the research. There is a ton of info at there!

I don't know much about the larger SA/CA cichlids as well as the malawian cichlids...but definitely not large enough for a T. moorii colony and N. brichardi/pulcher do best in species tanks (unless its a large tank) as they will likely breed and terrorize the inhabitants.

It all depends on what you want, first decide what you would like then research the hell outta it, and start her up. If you want to have a full tank then go with SA dwarf cichlids, you can put tetras and other smaller fish in with most of them and still have a planted tank. Most larger cichlids will out grow your tank, you could go with Keyholes, or maybe some gymnogeophagus. Many africans are small and colorful though
