Hey, i was thinking of the best way to clean my tank now that the breeding period for them is over. I wasnt abe to get any fertile eggs this time because i didnt have the correct plants in the tank but thats besides the point =P What i would like to know is what is the best way to clean the water after the male has released all his milt(Sperm)? I have cleaned the filter, but that hasnt done anything for the condition of the water. I am running an EHEIM classic 2213.

Looks like green water. Thats all from the male fish? Water changes, water changes and....well,you know.

:iagree::yuck: start those water changes ASAP.

Ive always had the blinds open and its not a contributing factor im pretty sure. =P Because, like i mentioned, my fish were in their breeding period just recently. In the first picture, my tank stayed that clean for months, whereas this "dirtyness" happened over about 3 days

Well when it first started i just left it because i was hoping it would fertilize my fish's eggs...which it didnt. But now im going to do about a bucket load per week. So my dad doesnt crack it for using too much water =P
But normaly before that i didnt have to do water changes for a pretty long time, months even and it was still fairly clear, like the first photo.

It just looks like green water. Who knows what the cause is but I seriously doubt it's milt. My fish breed all the time and the water NEVER gets cloudy. I'm guessing more nutrients have gathered in the water and have caused an algae bloom.

Oh i see. Thats not good =P Anything i can do on top of water changes to help to the return the water's clarity?
