Looking for a good deal on a canister filter and uv sterilizer for a 50 gallon tank. Any recommendations on other places to look or models that are good for the price also would be appreciated. Kind of on a tight budget here!

well got some more plants, not enough light, bought good lighting, now have awful green water. been blacked out for 2 days, going for 3, but not sure plants will survive. I hear uv sterilizer works wonders.

I had seen those on ebay but wasn't sure how well they worked. How long have you had and any problems?

Here is a 20 page thread about them:

I was able to get mine up and running in about 15 minutes and have had mine for 2 months no problems. However, people have had them for over a year with no issues.

Here are the caveats:
- They ARE generic filters so the brand name will change often. However many suspect they are simply OEM models of the big brands
- The instructions (if included) are.. useless. Just look at the picture on the packaging.
- You will most likely need to supplement the bio-media, just pick up some scrubbies from the dollar store

However, since many of us use them we should be able to answer any questions that you have!

Thank you so much patrick.paul! That's exactly what I was looking for. Can't really afford $300 filter... I think I'll give this a try.

I got a Eheim Professional 2224 needs a few parts, costs about $41 to make it like new... I have it on a 55 corner tank, its a little touchy, have to play with it for a little bit after cleaning it to get it not to leak, willing to get rid of it for $90 including shipping... needs a new Double tap unit and sealing rings.... these items run $41.00 at www.eheimparts.com Email me at masterchiefomaga1@gmail.com if you are interested
