I know this might be better of in the disease forum but I want something betta specific. Two of my older girls are losing pieces of fin. I don't know if this is from scraping to much with the new girls or from some sort of latent infection. I would really like to treat the whole tank in prevention. What would be best?

I've been observing very carefully. I think I'll skip the meds and just attempt to keep excellent water parameters during the setting up a hierarchy time to prevent any disease and hope for the best.

That sounds like a good plan.

lots of water changes will do a lot

I use a medication called Revive. It comes in a tiny fish shaped container and you use very little. It has helped with my bettas for just about anything I have needed it for.

Great cause I have a little walmart betta who is not doing so well. His fungus came back because I let the nitrites get to high. I'm so mad at myself for not doing more frequent monitoring. I hope I don't lose this guy because of stupidity.

A method I swear by for treating fin rot on bettas is nice clean water (daily changes), a little aquarium salt (one teaspoon per gallon dissolved) and Indian Almond Leaves (either the extract or the leaves themselves).

The tannins in Indian Almond Leaves helps heal fins, strengthens scales, and improves the overall health of bettas. They're like a magic cure for them.

This is an all natural approach to healing bettas fins so you don't end up using a bunch of chemicals that could harm your little fishie friend.

Hope this helps!

api makes an anti fungal that zaps fin rot. it is a 4 day treatment w/o carbon in the filter then add carbon to filter and bingo done. it turns the water green so don't worry about that unless your silicone sealent is prone to discoloration. also it will cause acrilic to pick up a green haze.
i also used it on my wifes black moor who a few days after purchase developed a white fungus spot and it zaped that too. *it was fungus not ich*

the betta i used it on had a fairly quick moving advanced case of fin rot and now it is doing good.

*good is defined as; active, alert, no more fins rotting away, fins regrowing a bit, having deep rich colors.*

after the fin rot happened we moved him to a 10 gallon tank and put in some "betta bulb" plant unknown what they are but they are growing out like a grass or twistedy water onion. and he likes to swim into them and then come out and say hi.
