Ummmmm....what is this?

RedWorm.JPG

I just uprooted a crypt and found this red thing entwinded in the root ball. I rubbed it and it moved! I eventually got it off the roots and placed into this container.

This is in a shrimp tank. No live foods ever used. I'm guessing it may be a blood worm judging by the color but never seen a live one. LOL.

yeah looks like a blood worm to me, did you add any plants recently? maybe hitchiked in. I'd of thought shrimp would of ate it though.

Interesting...I just uprooted another crypt and found another one.

I've had black worms that escaped being eaten and they looked like that after colonizing the substrate. I've heard from others that tubifix worms will do that too. Just snacks for later

I feed live black worms, some get away but I've never seen one that looked that red they're usually brownish shade in my setup.

Should there be cause for concern? This is an invert only tank.

looks like a black worm to me..they are dark when i get them from the store but once they have been living in my substrate they get pump and red like that!

It's harmless and agree it/they probably arrived with your plants. Even after getting established, they go away if you keep up with regular tank maintenance.
