I think they should be living anywhere from 10 - 15 years. My friend has a 10 year old big guy who is still going strong.

My Tank Setup

if they have the room to get to more than a foot they can live quite a long time. I have heard of some one having one for 20+ years and it was still going strong, and very slowly growing, only really slowly though like less than an inch a year.

There is some specie of Pleco at the Detroit Aquirium- Belle Isle Aquarium I believe it is called, that is over 2ft long. I was trying to ID it, but it was so far back that I couldn't really see any noticible marks, other then it was definately a pleco, Next time I go there, I'm going to ask the keepers how old it is. It was gorgeous..well as gorgeous as I could tell from behind the large tree brances it was hiding behind.

I have one I respectively call Tiny, he's 18 inches, could be more but was 18 last time I checked, I gave him to a friend with a 75 gallon earlier this year for his retirement. He's about 9 - 10 years now and still looks great.
