We discovered this critter having taken up residence in our bathtub drain. It would venture into the open tub too and return to the drain where it could still be seen just hanging out there. I guess it's some kind of common house gecko?

It seems to drink water but hasn't taken any food yet. I get conflicting info from the web... is there a good formula mix I should try until it's ready for crickets/mealworms?

Here's the best pic I got from my first attempt. It looks real scrawny but it's been active and alert. I'll try to get more pics later on.

It looks like a Mediterranean Gecko, and they don't eat formulas. Their definition of food is very simple. If it moves, and they can make it fit, it's food. Try to get some pinhead crickets or fruit flies, they're the most readily commercially available foods for it. I used to feed Anoles by keeping them in a cage with a screen top with holes large enough for a fly to get through but not the lizards. I would put a piece of fruit in the tank and the lizards ate the flies it attracted. You might be able to do the same with fruit flies.

I'm sure it won't take much poking through some of the herp websites and forums to find someone selling wingless fruitfly cultures. That's where I would start.

Most of the Petsmarts and Petcos near me now sell Fruit Fly cultures. You could also try pinhead crickets.

Thanks, guys! We'll see if we can get wingless fruit flies or pinhead crickets in local stores.

All is well now. This is one HAPPY gecko!







I got to see why so many gecko owners commented how fun it is watching them hunt. This little monster is a real charmer.

It must have eaten 20 or 30 flightless fruit flies tonight. I knew it was starving but didn't think it could hold that many. Only thing was after it got full, it sneaked underneath the paper towel to hide for the rest of the night.

If you think that's cool you should see 6, 1 inch long Electric Blue Gecko babies going after fruit flies during feeding time. It's complete chaos! Geckos zipping around everywhere!
