Sorry for a double post, posts in other than general FW get far less views/answers. I am finally replacing my HOB filters with a canister filter for my tank. My options are:
1) Fluval 405 (this is the old version still available new)-$120
2) Fluval 406 -$155
3) Marineland 360- $140
4) Aquatop CF 400-$90
Now dont get me wrong I know aquatop is basically a knock off of marineland (it looks identical) and I have read review on all of them and while the aquatop has a higher rate of 3-1 star reviews on amazon the great majority are 5 and next 4 stars. Its a big difference from the marineland equivalent but if the consensus is the quality is bad I will pass, would rather buy a quality filter to last than a total piece of junk.
My other question is the fluval 405vs406. The 405 is the older model which covers the same gallon-age but is $35 cheaper... The 406 is supposed to be a little quieter but thats of minimal concern. I have never owned a canister before so I dont really know what to take as important or not, It would be really cool if someone who has owned different types listed here would give their opinion on quality.
