See your point.....however LFS claims that because they live in Paddy fields in their natural habitt than this set up is fine as long as there are regular water changes....?
They will tell you most anything for the sale. Most bettas are raised in tanks at hatcherys.
The fish may be able to exists, but it wouldn't be providing proper living conditions for it. Just like a dog can be kept in a 2x3 foot kennel, but it would not be happy and thrive.
Anyways, see your point....i was really just attracted because I thought it was a cheap and easy way to squeeze in another (mini) aquarium...any suggestions on that point????
the people at the LFS dont even know what they're talking about.
sure you can put a fish in a little tiny bowl, but will it be happy? no.
a proper betta setup is a tank with a minimum of 5 gallons of waters, a heater set to 80*, and a filter.
every petstore sells 10 gallon tanks for 10 dollars. its not that expensive if thats what you're worried about.
bettas are very though and yes they live in less than a liter of water in their natural habitat. but over the years of domestic breeding, the betta has gotten more and more fragile, having the need to live in larger spaces, with proper equipment; aka heaters and filters.
Another good betta option IME is the 5 gallon plastic eclipse hexes petco and petsmart sell I got mine ready to run for about 30 bucks other then needing a heater. The betta in it seems happy and active and the entire setup is nice and compact.
