I bought an all-glass 125g tank that can't be drilled. I am adding a sump to it and thought about doing the overflow setup... But I really don't like the idea of a syphon setup...

So im thinking about doing a DIY sump that woud sit behind and above my tank with a inlet pump and outlet overflows...

I did a quick draft of what it would look like and the drawing is sloppy but gives a good illustration...

I didn't draw the deviders etc.. but what does everyone think?

I want to avoid the syphon, and matching overflow to pump rate etc...

Does this sound like a good way to go?

The only problem I would see is getting the sump to touch the main tank.

I just added a second smaller (10-gallon) refugium to my reef tank on its own stand. I bought the little tank drilled and that helped a lot. Maybe, to make it easier, you can buy your sump drilled or do you absolutely prefer the acrylic? How large do you want your sump? I understand your feelings on syphon set-ups but my buddies (and my LFS) who have them, they don't seem to be a problem at all. Still though, I like your idea.

Matching the overflow to pump rates shouldn't be a problem and I also don't think you'll have a problem touching the two, if they even have to touch at all.

Will the sump have its own stand? The diagram looks like it's hanging over the main tank.
