This is the first tank I've had in 25 years.

I am trying to go for a balanced tank, requiring minimal water changes, minimal filter cleaning, and no gravel cleaning. (To accomplish this, I am going for a high ratio of plant life to fish life. Massive overprovisioning of filtering capacity (I have two fluvals: 205 and 305).

Fish:
----
1 Bala shark
10 black neon tetras
2 Bollivian Rams
2 Green corries
2 Gorgeous cories that I don't know the species.
2 Pearl Gorami

Plants:
------
Wisteria
Water Sprite
Banana plants
Java fern
Grass??
Amazon swords

Equipment:
-----------
36 GL Allglass bowfront tank. w/ black wooden stand
20 Watt hood
1 underwater heater
205 Fluval
305 fluval
Yeast based CO2 generator

Future plans:
-------------
Add more species of plants.
Replace 20 Watt hood with a compact florescent (tincture and white light)
Slowly add more fish
add a small apple snail

Any and all comments are welcome!

Cheers,
-brian

P.S. - Sorry for the picture quality, I used my camera phone.

Looks very nice. As a note, in case you aren't aware, that bala might get cramped in there.

Nice setup. noticed you have a yeast based CO2. did yyou buy the setup or build it?
I bought it. (Turbo CO2 Bio System). I also bought a stack of refills. I am on the last refill now. When this runs out, I am going to try making my own refill.

I am upgrading my lighting system later this week. If it doesn't really make a marked difference in plant growth rate, I will probably upgrade to a CO2 tank.

Thanks! I was somewhat aware of this, but I don't rally have a notion as to when that will be. (I think he already may be)

Because they are gorgeous fish I was thinking about picking up a few babies. I'm not so sure I will do that now.

Very nice set up.

I have the same exact 36 bow all-glass tank but only a Fluval 304, I thought I was overfiltering, LOL! You must have nice clear water. I do as well, once I put in filter floss.

I will post photos of my tank when I get a chance.

Keep us posted!

Nice looking tank!

Have you had any algae problems? Or is the light low enough to save you from that?
I'm interested in the CO2 system as well. Is that pump noisy? I'm looking for something for my low-tech so any info will be welcome.

Bala sharks can get over one foot long, and are schooling fish, so even if you were to keep him, you'd want to get him at least three or four companions. They're some of the fastest, most active fish you'll ever see- pretty awesome fish if you have the room. I'd recommend finding him a new home with someone who has friends for him unless you plan on eventually owning a 200+ gallon tank.

However, other than that little troublemaker, your tank looks great, and your equipment sounds just about right. Nice work!

And apple snails are absolutely the coolest. I have a bunch, and I love them.
