Setting up a Chiller

Ok thinking about spending the cash for a chiller seeing I don’t want to heat my tank and kill my corals on accident if i forget to put the central air on and then go to work.

I know that they heat up the room they are in pretty good. So my thought is to put the chiller in the larger closet next to the aquarium. The closet is in the hall and i would access the closet through the back from the aquarium. The Closet drops down about 1 foot and is in a different hallway so the heat will not be as bad in my living room where my aquarium is. (i would obviously have to keep the closet open during the summer when the chiller is in use to keep it cooler)

My question is does this sound like it could be done? Also From my research I believe that I need to have a pump to pump the water from my sump to the chiller and back? What size pump is generally used for this? I have to pump the water about 5' total vertical and that is it. (probably not even that more like 4'.

Anything else I should know about a chiller?
 
how well do the clip on fans work for ya? I am going to the store today to get some and put them down in my sump... maby 1 or 2 in there not sure.... Right now i dont have any wind blowing on my water to cool...
 
yes, they make a very big difference mate....they cheap to buy and cheap to run....hence the reason why i have never found a need to spend all that money on chiller equipment...

I have seen a lot of chillers here as many keep coldwater tanks in this state. there are two tpes I know of. drop in where they use cooling coils that drop in the sump /refugium or in line where the water is pumped to the chiller..these are the ones I see most common here. the advantage to these is they can plae the chiller in a different area (like basement)

I would try the fans first.

You would need to install an extraction fan (perhaps mounted in the ceiling?) to remove the hot air from the closet, or the chiller will not work very efficiently.

That would depend on the size of the tank, and how much cooling is needed. I'm using an Eheim 1260 to feed the chiller on my 1200 liter tank.

i bought a square small fan at walmart $8.00 i keep it on 24 hrs, and it keeps the temp at 78 degree steadily. lose alot of water though. def. need a top off.
