:help: I have recently experienced what I never thought possible, as I was told it just doesn't happen. My needle-nose gars decided to breed.
I have moved about 20 eggs to a fry net in the same tank, and they are looking good. Although I have removed 6 already (unfertilized I believe) due to fuzz growing on them, things are looking promising. I have 6 @ 3 days that have circled the eggs once, and about 8 more @ 1 day that are just starting to show growth.
I am experimenting with brine shrimp eggs at the moment, so as they have something to eat as babies, and I have many small guppy fry for later.
My questions are as follows:
Will they survive on just brine shrimp, or should I go out of my way and find micro-worms?
When, if ever, should I use liquid food, and how?
When do I start feeding them the guppies?

Any other suggestions as to how to get them to survive?

Thanx Carp, that's the same site I am going off in my attempt, aybe I will have better luck. From what I hear even getting a few to grow more than 2 inches is a feat to be proud of.

Does anybody know anybody who has successfully raised these little mouth-pieces?

Are these eggs poisonous if my other fish eat them?

And after they grow to 2 inches, start feeding them guppy fry?

guppy fry might be ok, I would stick with live brine, with guppy fry throwin in every once in a while, because I very much doubt those little guys would even touch non live food. I have had needlenoses at 6 inches that would still eat live brine.

Pretty cool stuff, You need to document everything you do if your not already, nitrates, ph, harness, everything.. so that if you are successful, you can put the info somewhere, and collectors can stop plucking them out of the wild.

Best of luck

I now have at least 20 again in the fry net, they seem to just keep breeding! There are at least 11 I see forming, and I put a bunch of new eggs in today. I think my best bet will be to get another fry net to move them to once they grow and inch or 2, so they don't choke on the smaller once that hatch a few days later. No success with my first batch of brine shrimp, time to try another set-up, anybody have a fool-proof hatchery for me? Or should I just buy one that is professionally made?

you don't have space for them any way maybe you can sell them to the LFS
