What else should I feed my snails and how do you make snail jello?

ILOVEBETTAS

It's Cory Lover's cat!
I feed them shrimp pellets, spinach, hikari catfish wafers, and cucumbers. Anything else I could try? And I've heard of snail jello, how do you make that stuff?

Also... I've hardened my water with baking soda (calcium carbonate) and my snails seem happy. Is there anything better? Cuttlebone perhaps? Or could I just do baking soda?

1 jar of baby food (I used green beans. next time I'm going to try fruit)
1 packet of unflavored gelatin (like Knox)
1tsp crushed fish flakes or pellets
1tsp calcium powder (check the reptile section and you want the phosphorus free)

Heat the baby food in the microwave until it's really hot. Add the gelatin, Dakotagirl suggests using a fork to mash the lumps and it works well. Then mix in the crushed flake and cal powder and mix well. Spread it in a small shallow dish or plate. Chill well and cut up. She says you can freeze for up to a week.

I would have just posted it for you in the first place but I couldn't find it!

Welcome! It gets pretty solid so it shouldn't make a mess... I can't say for sure because I just made some for the first time today:) I just bought some snails from Dakotagirl, purple and magenta, and she sent along a care sheet with the recipe. If you are looking for magenta or purple mystery snails (or any other color), I can tell you hers are amazing! Just beautiful colors! I'm kicking myself for not buying more!

Ok hope they like it thanks for the recipe. and you can come up with the right combos that your snails and shrimp will enjoy...now that I know how to make it i will prolly weekly
