So... I have a florescent strip light for my 15 gallon and i originally wanted it to be planted. But for some reason i ended up buying a 14 watt strip light. Now, i wanted to know if i could buy a higher wattage bulb without changing anything or if i should put maybe one (or 2) of those swirly daylight bulbs in. If anyone have modded a strip light like this could i see pics?

Thanks, Brandon

Wow thats just what i need. Where did you get the fixtures? And the ware the black things under it. How did the plants grow under it?

Thanks

sockets and bulbs were bought at lowes. Walmart has the same bulbs for a little less. You want to use about 15-23 watts per bulb, color temp of 6500 Kelvin. The black things are switches Ive gotten at Advance Auto Parts (push/pull). All plants except the banana plants are growing real well.

Sorry for the double post but i need to know before i go out and buy/dismantle my light that i can't actually get a higher wattage light for a 15 " fixture.

Its a 15 inch t8 bulb.

What do you mean by connectors because i i just got back from home depot and i picked up 2 pig tail sockets and 2 Phillips daylight bulbs. And do you maybe have a wiring diagram so i can hook them up?

Thanks for the help

I meant crimping connectors. And whats the kelvin rating on those bulbs?

As far as wiring... Your gold screw should be your hot wire, silver is your return. On Alternating Current (house electricity) the black wire is hot and the white (or black with white stripe) is the return wire. Just make sure to gut the hood first.

Oh and you need some white spray paint if the inside of your hood isn't white already

And one more thing, make sure you connect the switch.

k i did all the wiring but i need to find a way to fasten the lights to the hood (any ideas?) . and i think the light is 6500k because awhile ago i was told to get daylight.
