Ok at the moment I have purchased but not opened play sand, and per a previous post by another have gotten a 5 gal bucket and paint strainer.

shoudl I get pool sand insted it is twice the cost of play sand.

Does pool sand look any different? Other than that I don't see any reason to pay more. I put play sand in my 72G 2.5 years ago and have been no problem with it.

thank you... i think pool sand is less fine

I went with play sand because I couldn't find anything else. I was all disappointed, of course, because I wanted white sand. However, now that it is in my tank, I'm glad I went with it. I like it. Has a more natural appearance in my opinion.

I just posted a picture of my newly setup tank with play sand in this thread: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133010 if you'd like to take a look at it.

Pool Filter sand>>>Play sand

cost? Compared to any packaged aquarium substrate, either type of sand costs nothing. Twice nothing is still, essentially nothing. PF sand is frequently available at hardware stores as well as at pool supply stores.
