Just got the 12g nano setup. I put in some crushed coral as the bed and have about 10lbs of live rock. Scanning through some of the post on here I seeing that alot of people are saying to stay away from crushed coral and go with sand? Is this true? The LFS I bought the nano from suggested the CC and said that it was basically a matter of preferance. Anyways am I going to run into problems using the crushed coral. Im looking to have coral and fish.

thanks for the info,

Ryan

It's been a while since I bought my substrate but I want to say that it's Flordia Crush Coral. Now I'm just worried that I might have started with the incorrect substrate.

let me know. Also I just saw that I got a free crab from the live rock that I purchased. What should I feed it. Its huge but i think its good size for a 12g tank. It has 2 big front claws. Other than that I have no idea what type of crab it may be.

Algae use to bloom on our crushed coral. So I switched to sand and the tank seems much more pretty. Also sand would be better if you wanted a gobie or sifter fish.

Not sure when it comes to nano's but CC can trap waste and uneaten food and can cause your nitrates to rise if not properly taken care of. I would change out the CC for argonite sand also with the sand you will probably end up with more pods and bristle worms to help with your clean up crew.

it will be worth more than both yor time and money in the longrun to trash the CC and do what grins said. plus, IMHO sand look way better. do a lil research on your options for sand beds.

see that yellow tang lady? she is the official AC reefgoddess. she knows her ****, like a fertilizer company.

ask her questions, and youll get strait valuable answers

I stopped by the LFS and all of there tanks had crushed coral or crushed coral/sand mix. I like inverts so I think the sand will be a better choice. The swap took about and hour and wasnt too much of a mess. I bought a ten pound bag put all but a couple good handfuls in. Im gonna wait for the sand storm to settle and see how it looks. I may or may not add the rest of the sand.

Thanks for the advice.
