Like a retard i put a fish with what i believe is ICH into my 125 community tank.

I just bought him at 5:00 pm when the store was closing for New Years Day.

I brought him home, acclimated him, and then put him in the tank. He quickly swam to the tank glass and then in the aquarium lighting i noticed the spots. Since he is new to the tank he is kinda hiding under the rocks, will take quite a bit of work to get him out, and i dont have a quarantine tank. :wall:

So the only option i have is to call the store tomorrow and talk to them to see what they want me to do.

Ive started raising the temp, and i am debating on using the salt method. I have treated my GBR's a few months ago and the salt method worked good.

Are the gold nugget pleco's sensitive to salt? Anyone know anything i can do right now to get some sort of treatment started.

Man, i hope he doesnt die. I paid $60 for him. Its a medium sized one. I work right next to the shop and i see them all the time, hopefully they will be cool and help me out.

I CANT BELIEVE I DID THIS.

Ive never had a problem with fish and introducing them to my tank. Goes to show you that it could happen at any time.

I have successfully treated a number of different plecos for ich. What I do is slowly raise the temp to about 82-84F and add 2tsp of aquarium salt per gallon of water. To further treat the ich I have used Para-Guard by Seachem at the recomended dosage. This treatment will continure for 7 days or untill I am certain there are no other spots on the fish +2days, whichever is that longer period of time. Furthermore I vaccuum the bottom of the tank every other day. Remeber when replacing the water you must make sure that the salinity level remains constant. Hope this helps and good luck

Can you supply a photo please. I am trying to see if my guaromi is developing ich at the mouth, which has a whitehead puss looking spot. :headshake2:

Thank you.

Thank you.

i would love to, but like alot of plec's new to a tank they tend to hide

KnaveTo used several ways of treating ich. the high temp helps ich develop faster and get off the skin so it's not protected anymore. using salt is a great idea and will work well. i don't think you'll need med when you use salt. just use salt really. treat the whole tank
