My Tank Setup

I wouldn't add any more cichlids to your 29. The only cichlids you'd have space for are dwarf cichlids, and they could never hold their own against a jewel and convict. I'd imagine that the jewel and convict appreciate their territories as they are and wouldn't take kindly to competitors.

Have you considered adding dither fish? They will make the cichlids feel more comfortable, possibly help disperse aggression, and provide activity and color for your tank. Tiger barbs come to mind as good tankmates- you can find them in the regular, green, or albino variety and all are the same species (and will therefore school together in a mixed group if you like). Try a group of 6-8 if this appeals to you. Good luck!

i wouldnt add anything else. both cichlids are pretty aggressive, and you may already hav eelevated aggression levels as it is.

I agree, tiger barbs, small danios or any other small group of fast moving fish would be great as a dither, especially with the current tank mates.

want a nice fish that has a personality? get a parrot cichlid. Stay away from the dyed jellybeans. it will be able to hold its own against the jewel and the convict. might have to upgrade tanks in the far future.

I'd have to disagree, not only do parrots get very aggressive, but because they are man made hybrids they are also very unpredictable as far as their size, health, etc..

a parrot aggressive? Right if ya say so. they get aggro when they are spawning just like anything else. but it will be able to hold its own against the jewel and the convict. 1 male and 1 female yes they will be aggressive but 2 males no spawning = no aggro. and rule #1 more fish less aggression in the tank. with cichlids overcrowding is a good thing just remember to over filter as well.. just stick to the same community's and everything should be ok. whats with people and the hate for parrots. if yer going along that route lets get rid of all the hybrids and all the line bred fish and the peacocks and the numerous color morphs that have appeared in the hobby too after all they are also man made. Do you even own a parrot? or is this just the same old rhetoric that i keep hearing from people. Oh its a hybrid IT SUCKS. I have 2 parrots as the main pieces of my 90 gal and i have no issues with them or any of the other fish that i have with them. Jack Dempseys are more aggressive then the my 2 parrots are.... k i finished ranting.

no way way too agressive and its a tiny tank they get huge.

overstocking only works in AFRICAN cichlids not sa/ca
overstocking with ca/sa cichlids usually leads to a death match and is a ticking time bomb with such a tiny tank. its only a matter if time.

two male parrots in anything except 75g+ no no no no, in a 29 of keeping any 2 male ca/sa cichlid except dwarfs is a bad idea.
there is like a .0000001 chance it will work

i see you have tiger barbs stick with only that except maybe a pictus cat
