i was doing some routine cleaning today so i got out the camera. nothing to fancy just the basics. don't want to give something he cant handle. the red jewel in the pics was raised from a fry. there are some diy bulkheads on the tank as well as a diy bio tower and sump. i also drilled the tank myself.:headbang2:

Nice jewel.

Just curious, but can you tell me the dimensions of your tank? The height and the opening at the top from flat to flat (not corner to corner).......

I just bought a Midwest Aqua Tower Aquarium T-1 that they claim to be 50 gallons. I filled it, one gallon at a time and it's not even close to 50, in fact it's 33, to 34 gallons. It's dimensions are 14", flat to flat and 50" tall (the water vessel). It has a bottom cap and top cap that make the overall unit
76" tall.

I emailed them with the discrepancy but they don't respond. They used the corner to corner (pointed) dimension of 16", verses the flate to flat dimension of 14" in their calculations. They used the wrong dimension of 16". When computing area of a hexagon you need to use the flat to flat dim.

The formula for computing capacity in gallons of a hexagon is as follows:

((flat to flat dimension)^2 x .866) x height / 231 = gallons

Oh, BTW, great fish and tank!
