1. I have read some places that you should have you base/live premium rock ratio is 50/50 and other places i have read 80/20 what do you think is best?

2. Is having a R/O filter absolutly nessasary? I am a college student and every penny counts! its going to be a FOWLR tank with no inverts, my puffer would make short work of them

also its a 60 gallon tank if that makes any difference

The more LR the faster it will cycle and the heavier bio load you can handle.

RO water is really important in SW tanks. You dont have to buy a filter you can usually buy it from an LFS or a grocery store.

I agree with Sam. The more live rock the better but I'd recommend a minimum of 50/50 if your budget won't allow more.

Having an RO unit is not ABSOLUTELY necessary but ABSOLUTELY recommended. You want the water to be as "clean" as possible. Base the decision on what you're planning on using - if all your tests come back clear then you should be OK.
