Hello,

I just noticed this morning that my whole tank is covered in this white, furry looking algae and the water is a little milky.
Last night while doing a PWC (very little, maybe 10-15% just to get the poop of the bottom) I noticed that the glass was getting a little slimy but it wasnt visible with the tank full of water.
I dosed Seachem Flourish as per bottle recommendations and then tested the water. PH was 6.4, and ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte all zero.

I set up the DIY CO2 in there just a couple of days ago. and my lights are on a timer for 10 hours a day (its only 50W total).

What should I do to fix this problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Is this the 45g? If so, you don't really need co2 with that amount of lighting. Of course it doesn't hurt, but if it ever starts to be a headache, remember you can go back to no co2.

Initially, my thought is it's not algae, it's fungus. Using DIY co2, many people develop a fungus around the output of their co2, and sometimes this fungus can spread. The fungus is generally off-white in color and very slimy. I don't know about hairy, but could be. To get around this, you can use a gas separator. Run your co2 line into a small bottle(I use a gatorade bottle), and have the gas bubble through water(I use a mild bleach solution). This will ensure that the only thing getting to your tank is gas, and not any spores.

If it isn't the DIY fungus, I don't know what it is.

darn it, fungus can't be good.
I scraped it off the front glass. should I clean the glass all around and do a PWC? and then add the separator? I would really like to keep co2 going just to see if it will help the plants. would I be safe after adding the separator?
I just remembered that last night some of the yeast mixture got sucked into the tank when I shook the bottle so maybe that caused it? i did try to get it off the bottom and I thought I did, at least most of it.
