Stealth heater: those danged clips

irishspy

There is a stargate in my aquarium.
Hi all,

I set up my 10 gallon last night: water, rock, light, filter, &c. But, when I went to assemble the heater, I came across a low-tech, drive-me-nuts problem: for the life of me, I cannot get the suction cups to attach to the clips that fasten around the heater's body. There's a mushroom-shaped nipple that's supposed to go through a hole on the clip, but, try as I might, I can't get it through. I've pushed it, twisted it, bent it, and even cussed at it :swear:, all to no avail.

Is there some secret I'm missing, or am I just hopelessly inept at Visitherm-fu? :thud:

Mine had a little notch in the hole you're supposed to press them through. I got the flap of the suction cup onto the notch and twisted them on. Yes, they are a pain to get on (press together and twist at the same time) but once you find the trick, it's pretty easy.

Thanks, folks. I'll play around with it (and probably swear at it) some more tonight.

A little gross, but effective: Wipe side of your nose w/ index finger, now wipe edges of suction cup and/or portion of plastic you have to shove it through. Now, push (hard) while twisting a bit.

It's an old chemist trick.

I remember reading about this problem before I got my stealth heaters, but never experienced it. I can see how some people may have a problem though, but really all you do, as others have said, is just twist it back and forth until it's in.
