How much do you think I can get for my set up?

I started my set up in December of 07 and I pretty much spent all my money on it and now I'm dead broke. I'm a college student and I had no clue I would really end up spending upwards of 4K on it and now I am just beating myself up and down over it while struggling to pay for school.

It's a 72 AGA bow with an AGA 72 bow stand with built in over flow and plumbing, glass canopy, coralife lunar 260 CF light hood, Proclear 150 wet/dry sump, proclear 75 protein skimmer, 850 GPH pump, about 300 bucks in chemicals, 70 LBS of live rock, 80 LBS of live sand, 2 coralife power centers with built in timers, 4 nets, kent pro scraper, a whole bunch of liquid test kits. Everything bought BRAND NEW.

Population:

1 blue tang
1 kole tang
3 firefish
1 mandarin goby
1 banded goby
2 diamond gobies
1 red spotted blenny
2 oscellaris clowns (mated pair)
1 blue spot puffer
1 flame angel
1 green wrasse
1 tamarin wrasse
2 cleaner shrimps
1 condy anemone
1 sand sifting star
 
Unfortunately, I think you won't get a whole lot out of it, and I've seen similar setups on Pittsburgh craigslist minus the fish for $600. A lot of people won't want the tank and all the fish you have, so maybe you could talk to a LFS about selling them back, explaining the situation. I think it owuld depend on a lot of factors what you could reasonably get on it.
 
Eh screw that...I would rather to give it to someone I care about than sell it for next to nothing. I will just stop buying new stuff for it then until things get better.
 
I would agree with mandy, im out in boston and would guess you could probably get a bit more, but everything is expensive out here. Check your local classifieds and such and see what set ups are going for in your area - the cost of shipping tanks is prohibitive so almost everyone who buys one used gets it from within driving distance.
 
I paid 550.00 for a 75 standard tank with a double reefsun mh light (these go for 560 to 700), a melev type f sump, skimmer, two heaters, mag 9.5 return pump, LR up the yang (which most of it got chucked due to the condition and I bought a lot of new stuff), along with I chucked the substrate as it was CC, overflow, stand, a full 5 gal bucket of salt.. yadadada..

I have since put a LOT of money into the tank upgrading things getting rid of the stuff I thought was garbage redoing my plumbing three times..

Quite honestly most people in this hobby know what stuff goes for new, but won't pay what you put into it, not even close. Because if you don't sell at the price they are willing to pay someone else will, or they will wait you out.

Most people usually just want to buy things separately, that might be the better way to go. I know I always see full reef set ups for sale on Craigslist (actually the Pittsburgh one Mandy was talking about) and I email the people and ask if they are selling the stuff separately. Of course they usually email and tell me they won't sell me just a few pieces of LR because someone is buying it all from them.

good luck selling it though. I'm in college too, its a tough hobby to get in to when you have no money!
 
I don't think I'm going to sell it unless I can find someone who would want to grab the whole load such as a friend or something...whatever things have a tendency to work out with patience.
 
You probably would be better off selling off the fish separately and then craigslisting the rest. The fish fortunately don't depreciate that much in price, but you probably won't get fish store prices for them. Its the hardware, LR and stuff that people really quibble about the price.
