 I guess I'll be the one. Need a bit more info MIKE D. What size tank, how many & what type fish, what type filtration, what are your current water parameters, what's your usual maint. schedule, how long's the tank been running ??? I know it sounds like a lot, but the info is necessary to try to determine what's wrong & what needs to be done. Discus are very beautiful yet sensitive fish. A number of different things can cause serious problems. "T"

They are in a 30 gallon with 3 other discus, 2 angels and 3 corry cats. Filtration is a whisper 20-40 HOB. Water params are zero. 50% water change every 3 days due to the discus being sensitive. I've had the tank running since june but before that it was my friends grandmothers tank and she had it running for years.

over stock!, and i think that is cause of a bacteria or something cause it,this happen to my fish before, but my addvice is move the fish to another tank, hostpital tank, and do more research and GET A NEW TANK ! and what is the tank tempt? what are you feeding it?

Temo is actually heading in the right direction.
a 30 with 3-4 Discus 2 angels a few cories is pushing it.

the angels alone would push the population of a 30(maybe with a couple dithers) 3-4 discus should be in a larger tank.

the stock you have is fine but in a 55-75 G tank.

at issue would be how quickly the water can go bad..discus and angels can get messy and they are cichlids and may have disputes with territory.
50% water changes are great but in the limited tank you may want to consider doing it 3X weekly.
but consider a larger tank.
it is possible you have a minor bacterial issue..hard to determine the cause..but increase water changes should help.

what is the tank temp? and parameters?

They are going into my 72 gallon bowfront which is still in cycle process. Temp is 82 its a little low so I turned my heater up. Amon is 0 Nitrate 0 Nitrite 0 Checking the PH now.

This just in PH is 6.4

nitrates 0? is the tank heavily planted?

the 72 will be fine.. the 30 is up and running..when not seed the 72 with media from the 30 and move the fish over?

I did add some gravel and a few plants from the 30 gallon yesterday. its been cycling for 3 days now. I missed a button on the nitrate post its 5.0. if you look at the test card its the one after 0ppm.

Now I have a diffrent question about 2 discus I picked up on friday. I have 2 discus in my 10 gallon QT tank. They have been in there since I brought them home because if they had anything I didnt want it to spred to the other fish in the 30 gallon tank. I picked them up because I knew that my 72 gallon tank would be ready soon. I have noticed in the past 3 days that there scales are falling off! I know that they are not fighting because they stay on 2 diffrent sides of the QT tank. Im treating them with pimafix and melafix so they do not get fungus or a infection. I dont know what to do. These two fish I had ordered from my LFS and when they came in I picked them up, took them home in the same bags they were transported to the LFS in.

remember to feed the bacteria you moved over.

SOP with stressed discus..raise the temp and add salt.
if these are young 88-90 is a good start temp..add an airstone as there is less dissolved O2 in warmer water.

I would move the older discus to the 72 and use filter squeezing to add bacteria.. then move the new fish to the 30 and use that as a QT

if the fish are realtively new keep the lights low..kep them in qt for 4 weeks.

where did you get them? what size are they?

my std qt is a 20 I use a 10 for hospital.
