for those of you who don't know, several months ago i bought a used 75gal tank off of craigslist and set it up and bought several cichlids for it. then 2 weeks after having it set up and running it sprang a leak! so i had to put them all into a 30gal. =[ and because of school and sports and getting my permit and stuff i've been neglecting their needs. well NOT ANYMORE! i've decided that although i can not fix my tank until the summer starts because i lack the time, i can at least put in some of the sand from it into my 30 gal. (up until now they have had an empty bottom of a tank) please don't yell at me! i know how wrong i was in neglecting them and i know that i'm a terrible person and i don't need your help in reminding me.

but i just figured i'd let everyone know that i've been out for a while and i may need some help getting back on my feet. :nutkick: so ya. any ideas for how to make my current 30 gal more hospitable will be greatly appreciated. negative comments not so much........ :) so ya........tell me what you think!

oh! my current occupants are:
2 snow white socolofi (2.5-3.5")
2 blue zebras (2-2.5")
4 yellow labs (1.5-3")

Presuming tank is cycled, get the substrate in there (they will much prefer it), over filter the 30G, get plenty of rockwork in there, and a bigger tank as soon as you can.

Good luck :)

well the tank is more than fully cycled. they've been in there for months already. there is a penguin ____ that's meant to filter for 50gal tanks. i'm going to put in a powerhead to create a cross current and i'll add in some of the lava that i was using in my 75 be4 it broke. then i'll clean out the 75 and replace all the silicone asap (so sumtime when summer starts)

alright. here is a REALLY stupid question. if i remember correctly, i was told from most people of this site to keep the temp around 80*. i've been maintaining a temp that is around there. is this accurate and appropriate for the fish i have?

should be 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit
and i agree with cooler rocks and sand i did my tank with river sand and rocks i found in the river its free and is easy

ok! and your tanks looks amazing! i have some pix uploaded but freaking photobucket isn't letting me log in! lol. but basically there is like 2" of sand and then 2 caves made with lava rock. inho it looks really nice! but this is my 75.....i won't be able to fit all my lava into my 30....hehehe. 0xD

i would just put as much as you can fit in there without stirring up the water to much if possible..... my tank isnt finished yet waiting on a pump, light and heater i have on order but will only get better from here (hopefully) lol WAS MENT TO BE HERE 3 DAYS AGE GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR STUPID COURIERS LOL

hahahah. that sucks so much! i'm sry to hear about ur loss....(well ur kinda loss) lol. i also have a rena xP3 sitting attached to my 75 not really doing too much.....prolly a bad idea to hook it up to my 30 huh? 0=)
