I feel so awful....I had this fish for what has been a long time for me.

I have another fish that I got at the same time and it he seems ok. I will not however be as negligent as I appear to have been.

He is the only fish in my 30 gallon tank now and it seemed like he 'knew" that his "buddy" was dying as he stayed really close to him while he was leaving.

What should I get so that he is not alone. I don't want to get anything too small for fear that he would eat it or hurt it.... He is about 5-6 inches long.

To some these might just be fish......to me they are part of my animal family. I have 2 cats, a parakeet, a dog, a desert tortoise, and now 1 goldfish and 3 bettas that are in their own individual tanks.....

The thought that I killed it accidently or otherwise is devastating to me.

Thanks.
Pam

I am so sorry for your loss. I would wait and make sure this fish is healthy before adding anything else to the tank.

Sry for your loss! Cheer up buddie

It is always rough losing a fish. Have you checked your water parameters?

thank you all for the sympathy .......

and to R bishop ...yeah I have...too late it appears for my poor one fishie. see my thread about Melafix and you'll see what has happened up to this point ...

My other fish is swimming around happily now that he doesn't have to "hang" with his sick buddy but I will take your advice and wait to add anybody else...msjinkzd

When I do though I would still like some ides for new fish friends for my goldie..

I am going to move your post to the coldwater section, there are people who frequent there more that may be able to give you better advice for good tankmates for your goldie. Again, sorry for your loss, but at least you know now how to ensure your remaining fish has a long and happy life.
