I have decided that it's time to step up to a bigger tank from my 12 gallon nano. My 24 gallon nanocube dx will be arriving within a few days. Will some salt that is nearly 3 years old still be ok to use for mix? As for now, when the tank arrives, I will go ahead and mix my salt and get the tank running along with putting my clowns from my 12 gallon in. And for water, I'm guessing the best way to do it is to buy r/o water from my lfs, so Im going to have to get 2 more 5gallon jugs. I can't wait until it gets here!!:headbang2:
Other things I ordered (from aquabuys)

Coralife Digital thermometer-not sure if it's any good.
Stealth 100-watt-Enough wattage?
Is there anything else you think I need? I think I've got all I need.

I'll see if I can post pics later.

Thanks guys,
Jake

Hey dude...where you dissapear to mate?? Great to have you back here with us..

The new venture sounds superb...A few observations...I would ditch the old salt, buy new...i take it your moving the life from the old tank to the new one?? does that include moving live rock...just thinking of the cycle, thats all...What are you using for flow on the tank??

:)

Sorry I haven't been around lately, I've been at the lake wakeboarding:headbang2:. As for the tank, I'll be transferring all of the life in the 12 into the 24 except for the sand which I will be getting from my lfs. It comes with a 290 gph pump.

Update There was some kind of shipping problems with the nanocube and it didn't go through so I went to my lfs yesterday and bought it there. I was up till 1:30 getting the tank ready. Last night I went ahead and did a leak check then got my salinity up to par at 1.022. I also added 20lbs of live sand which just isn't enough so I added some of the 12 gallon sand so it's now nice and thick(about 2-3"). This morning, I added all of my lr which is only like 14lbs which is a guess. More LR will come later. :thm: After the water was nice and clear, I acclimated the fish and snails. When the fish got in the tank and swam around a bit, they totally love the extra space! Everything looks absolutely fantastic as of right now! I am thrilled with the tank and it works great. I will get pics soon.

Update. Yesterday I went to my LFS in search of some rock. I got a great looking piece that makes the tank look much better. The rock has a little velvet red polyp I guess and had a tiny little snail. Also got a Tiger pistol shrimp and watchman pair. They have already made tunnels just about everywhere they possibly could. I will try to get some pics up soon. I also have a question. I have a 50 watt heater. Is it enough? I've noticed the temp. has been fluctuating quite some bit (3-4 degrees). Do I need a chiller or should I get some more powerful fans?

depends on the temp fluctuation...if its from like 76-80, might not be a prolem, but if its more like 80-84, that might be a little warm. i wouldn't bother with a chiller for a tank that size, i'd just hook up a small pc fan on the top or something

I came back with a nice hammer coral and a 3 lb. piece of nice rock which was 11$ per lb. I just rearranged them in a way that there's some room to add more rock. I think the rock is fiji, it has a ton of inner surface area.
I'll take some pics when the water clears up and the hammer comes out
