my sister and her family(the inlaws) have done no research and has had a fish tank with 4 fish in it for the longest time but this is the problem: the fish are as follows 2 oranda goldfish, 1 black moore goldfish and a pleco (common). i would take the fish but my tanks are full already. how big of a tank would they need if they wanted to keep all the fish?

The common pleco my not be able to stay with them no matter the size of the tank. I have heard goldfish can eat the slime coating off of common pleco's which leaves the pleco open to illness.
 
If you can set aside the pleco, they could keep 3 goldfish in a typical 55. Those particular goldfish are not the ones that get to be a foot or more long so they could fit well into the smaller tank. I will not keep a common pleco in my 120 gallon but have no trouble with things like the smaller bristle nose plecs in there.
 
so what should i tell them to do with the pleco?

It's the reverse actually but plecos do eat slime coat only when their diet is insufficient.

It's the other way around, pleco's eating the slime coating offa the goldfish :).

I would say min 125-150.
