My Betta "Fred" has fin rot so I decided to document his treatment and hopefully his recovery. I just put him in a hospital tank and gave him his medicine (Maracyn and Maracyn2) pics coming next post.

Here are some pics.

A couple of pics of Fred in his hospital tank: (note his fins)

Here is Fred's hospital tank: (the pink tank was the only tank that wouldn't cost too much and that was the right size)

And here is an old pic where you can see what fred used to look like:

Fred's hospital tank is actually bigger than his regular tank.

I tried doing just water changes but while I was using this method his fin rot got worse.

My dad says that once you start using meds then you have to finish using them is this true?

Also the meds can't hurt can they?

I doubt it will hurt him, just keep up on those water changes regardless since the antibiotic will knock out any nitrifying bacteria as well (not always, but in my experience it does).

Update time.

Fred has gotten a little worse:( but I did a major (about two thirds) water change and gave him his medicine for the day so hopefully his fin rot will start to get better soon.

Sorry I couldn't get any pics. The family camera is not working.

I did end up adding a little java moss. Not so much that it would hold onto debris but hopefully enough to help with levels in the unfiltered hospital tank.

P.S. msjinkzd I put him in a hospital tank so that the nitrifying bacteria in my filter wouldn't get hurt (the filter is on my main tank not the hospital tank).

Good news and bad news.

First the good news: I got the camera working.

Now the bad news: Fred got a lot worse.

Here are a couple of new pics:

Here is what I have done so far: I put Fred in the hospital tank, I gave him medicine, and I am doing large (about two thirds) water changes frequently.

Is there anything else I can do for him?

:help2:

sorry to hear about fred
well when my betta Rosalie got fin rot, i did a huge wc and added stresscoat. now she is recovering

when my betta Luna got fin rot i tried bettamax but the winning meds were "lifeguard"

also, my bettas likes salt and it does help their recovery, i added salt when i treated some of my bettas for ich and now they are healthy happy little buggers!
I hope fred gets better,
and hope this helps!

Sorry I have not posted an update in a while but Fred got worse and now he's getting better. His fins seem to be regrowing so I will give Fred one last dose of medicine tonight and then use some activated carbon to remove the medicine tomorrow. I will keep Fred in the hospital tank until I am sure he is over the fin rot and until his fins grow back.
