So 3 of my angels have died on my over the past 48 hours and need help with the problem. So far heres what I have:
Water params:
0 Ammo
0 Nitrates
0 Nitrites
Waters Hard
Akalinity High
PH 7.5-7.6 (Hard to tell)
Earlier on Saturday I did a big gravel vac on the sand and moved alot of it around to help out with algae build up. When filling the tank back up with straight water (I am on well water, not city water) I noticed it was a bit white the water and kinda freaked (Think it was the temp differnce of the water since the water I was putting back in was warmer) and dosed the whole tank with prime.
Sunday morning saw one of my Kois dead along with a platy later that night (Platy's are a super weak stock this time and getting mad about PetSarts weak stock). All other angels were fine at this point and looked no differnt. Did noticed on Saturday night that both Kois were stacked in the corner breathing kinda hard and staring at the surface.
Monday morning my other koi dies and notice a film of white oil like substance on the surface. Not sure if it was stagnant water or a forign chemical but used one of my fish holders to start syphoning all of the stuff out. Thought I got all of it till I looked again tonight. Did another fairly large water change and dosed the whole tank with prime again. Looked again at 10:30 at night and saw my beautiful salt and pepper veil dead behind my plants.
It doesnt make sense because Angels are suppose to be hardier then neons and I ahvent lost a single neon yet. Nor any Cherry Barbs. One of my gourami's is starting to look pretty sick as well. The angels that have died so far are from my LFS thats privatly owned and supplied by a local breeder while the angels that are still alive are from freaking Meijer's (Like WalMart meets Jewel) and are huge and look fine but still a bit lethargic. The pleco's are fine and playing as well as the platy's.
Here's what I can come up with:
-Bit of oil slick is getting in there system from feeding due to them sucking food from the surface, gourami's do this as well.
-My father ninja'd some bleach in teh well and didn't tell me yet
-My father replaced the water softner salt 2 weeks ago, but the water is showing as hard in the tank.
-The local breeder's angels are of really weak gene's and its showing up now (They were really thin and werent as aggressive of eaters as the others and much smaller now)
