hey guys fish lover here again just wondering some few things,
ok first...
i ended up buying for my 30G tank, 3 convicts and 1 green terror all 2-3 inches in size,
the green terror is 3 inch and the convicts about 2 and a half.

but i think my convicts are pairing up meaning im going to remove the odd one out of the tank and with the green terror, he seems to not be eating and just staying in his cave 24/7 eversince they paired up or atleast acting like they are, they swim around an inverted pot and removed some pebbels it had inside of it, and they also tend to chase the odd convict around the tank everytime they see him.

im just worried about my gt not eating, he also seems to be breathing heavily through his gills and mouth, while in his cave.

any suggestions please ? iv had my tank set up for about 2 weeks now and i did a water change on monday removing about 10 gallons and adding 1 teaspoon of amquel to remove the chlorine,

please help

Sounds like he is gasping, not enough oxygen in the tanks water. I would suggest stronger filtration to create more water movement to the top of the water.

Remember oxygen is created in the water from movement at the top of the water. I personally use an airpump with 2 bubble wands to create more water movement and disturb the top of the water for more oxygen.

Also you could try adding some low light LIVE plants to the tank, to up the oxygen levels in the water.

Its been setup for 2 weeks???Thats not enough time to cycle a tank. What are your water parameters??? Ammonia Nitrites and Nitrates??? Also a 30gal is to small for a trio of Convicts and a Green Terror I would suggest getting a bigger tank or taking back a convict and the green terror. Also you may have a pair formed in which case they should be alone in the tank cuz convicts get very aggressive when mating and will take on any size fish to protect there young.

since u said they should be kept alone, should i remove the pleco too ?
because he does get chased out of their territory when he comes near....

and i guess he could end up sucking in the eggs at night, if they lay eggs...

Sorry for the delay in response. I would remove the pleco as well. Leave the convict pair in there solo. In a tank like a 30gal a pleco would have no place to run when the pair start defending there eggs. Also yes a pleco will try to eat the eggs at night.

tank is too small for the gt anyway, once you have a pair of cons, nothing is gonna do well in a tank unless it is much bigger than they are, the gasping sound like high ammonia like GER said, two weeks hasn't even really began to cycle. Your best bet is to go ahead and remove one of the cons that's paired up, unless you have extra tanks for all the fry.
