I need dumb computer person help.

Got a new camera and with it a new SD card. Only problem is my computer isn't "finding" my SD card. I have slots on the front for all sorts of cards and the green light comes on when I put it in but it doesn't do that autoprompt AND it's not seeming to find it when I go to "my computer" what gives? I've already put it back into the cam and formated the card. :( Anyone?
 
Try plugging the card in, then go to Control Panel, click on Printers and Other Hardware, and then in the top left click on Add Hardware.

Sorry if this sounds too basic but... try holding down win-"E" (the microsoft logo key and "E" at the same time) to open up windows explorer.

You'll see a C:\ drive- probably a D:\ and a few others... check each of them to see.

Just because you're not seeing a pop-up doesn't mean it hasn't found the card. That would be the very first step to try (and probably one you already have).

Question- you didn't start out with XP and upgrade to Vista did you?
 
already removed/restarted, still didn't find it. and it's the right slot. It's not the first time I've used an SD card, this is just a new card.
And when I go to my drives, F, G, H, I are all removeable but none of them them actually show anything.
And the computer came with Vista
 
Maybe I should add that it's an SDHC card. I'm wondering if my computer just can't read it?
And the problem with using the USb cord is that it will only putt the pictures stored on the cameras internal memory, not the card.
 
its vary possable that its cuz its a sdhc card.. my camera will read them but my built in card reader in my laptop wont read it...

if u have my computer open when u insert the chip do u see the drive letter show up for the card?
 
How old is the computer. A lot of computers first sold with Vista had hardware not compatible with Vista... :)

If you go to "Admin Panel" and look at "Computer Management\Device Management" do any of your devices show up with a yellow question mark on them (or some other icon that tends to suggest a problem)... I think it's a yellow question mark in vista.
