Just joined this site to learn from others experiences. I have had smaller tanks before, but am venturing into a 55 gallon for the first time. Did my research and cycled tank before adding a nice little community. over the course of about a month, I have "adopted" 6 Giant Danios, 6 Tiger Barbs, 4 Rosy Barbs, 1 Albino Cory, 1 Bala Shark and 1 Senegal Bichir. I know that eventually the Bala and Bichir may need to go to separate, bigger tanks. They are both around 4-5 inches long now. So far, no issues with fin nipping or distress from any of my fish.
