Hi all,
First time post here. I have a 10 gallon tank that has been set up now for a few weeks now. I have many fish when I was a youngster and started this tank for my son and really for the whole family to enjoy. I have 3 Platies in the tank right now and I am planning on adding 2-3 more. I'm also thinking of adding 4-6 Neon Tetras down the road but I'm thinking some cleaners would be a good idea for the tank. I'm leery of adding Ghost Shrimp, are there any other fresh water shrimp that I can add that is suitable for my tank? If there are no shrimp options what would you the experienced fish keeper prefer in my tank with my present fish and future fish.
Thanks in advance for any/all advise.

I never thought of a snail. I had a bunch of those when I was a kid. I always remembered them being on the sides of the glass. Would snails be good for cleaning the gravel?

why don't you want to add ghost shrimp?

I read that they will eat small fish and with the plan to add Neon Tetras I worry about the shrimp eating the Neons. I could be over reacting but being a noob, I have a lot to learn. Things are very different now then when we kept fish 25 years ago. I want to make an informed and intellegent decisions now so me and my family can enjoy these fish for years to come.

snails and shrimp can help eat excess food but since they create waste as well its not really "cleaning". the actual removal of waste is up to you

I made the mistake of having cherry's and ghosts in the same tank. The Ghost Shrimp pulled all my cherrys out of their hiding places and tore them to pieces in front of me. One by one, like a mafia hit man.

Got rid of the ghost shrimp and got some more RCS, and I love them, they clean up the excess food, nibble on some algea and make me smile. Still have to gravel vac though.
