They are indeed just a color variant of blue rams. They should be fine with these tankmates provided it is a big enough tank, but keep the temperature warmish. I would recommend 79-80 degrees, personally, definitely no lower than 78. Rams really like warm water, they definitely don't thrive at 75 degrees. All the other fish like water without too much agitation (lower dissolved oxygen) so that makes me think they won't mind water that's on the warm end of their range.
I lost my gold rams to a Hexamita infection - if they don't eat, be worried because that's your first clue that you need to treat them for parasites. I wish I'd caught it sooner. They are a short lived fish though, relatively speaking - 3-4 years is max.
