I am in the process of setting up a 10g freshwater tank with the ambition to grow live plants. I've pieced together the supplies from various setups I've had over the years but am curious if the light fixture I have (a Coralife 65W, 6700K PC ) will be too much for a tank this size? I also am at a loss for how to position it over the tank since is it about 4" wider than the tank itself.

I want to try and keep things simple and use the supplies I have on hand which in many cases may be less than ideal - regular aquarium gravel, HOB Penguin filter - So suggestions on how to make the most out of what I have or what plants may be tolerant of such conditions would be great.

I've promised my wife I will make it look "nice" - she wasn't a fan of my previous DIY planted tank escapades. Thanks for any help or suggestions.

lol about the wife. Tell her its a artwork in progress :). I would say that light should be fine. From what I have read, you may experience a lot of growth with that light. You will definitely need some sort of co2 to go with it. But I don't see a problem with a little overkill. Just be prepared for overgrowth and the wife yelling at you because plants are coming out of the tank.
