I'm in need of a secondary filter for my 55 gallon tank. Right now I am running a Eheim Classic 2215 and with the tank being 4 feet long I feel as if I need another filter for the other side of the tank.

I have my choices down to the following 3: Eheim 2213, SUNSUN HW-302 and Marineland H.O.T. Magnum 250. The Marineland and the SUNSUN are within the same price range of ~$60 shipped and the Eheim being a bit more at ~$75 shipped.

Which one would you choose and why?

Thanks in advance.

I know this isn't what your asking but I'm not familiar with the ones you've mentioned but my own personal favourite is the AquaClear HOB filters...they're quiet not to expensive(depending on the size) super dependable and easily maintained. Is your tank heavily stocked? Just curious why you feel you need another filter? I have an AquaClear 110 on my 60g and on the other side I have an AquaClear powerhead for extra filtration and water movement, on the other end of the tank but my tank is not heavily stocked and I do frequent water changes as well. Just a few other options :)

What about the Rena Filstar XP1?
I am currently on the fence between the XP1 and the Sunsun HW-302 for my 29g. Some advice would be appreciated.

I have a 60 tank and those filters mentioned. Since you already have a main dedicated multi-media floor canister, I recommend you get a polishing filter to bring out the high resolution in your tank through high water clarity. The Magnum 250 HOB micron filter is the only filter that can accomplish removing those size particles (8 micron). Another standard floor canister will only miss them. However if you want the best of both options the Magnum 350 is sized to do more just like a floor canister and also use 8 micron high polishing filters, again recommended because you already have a main canister filter without high polishing capability

I just picked up a H.O.T. 250, for my 80g. So far so good. The micron filter did a good job of polishing the water and the filter floss & carbon, are doing a fine job of keeping things clean. My other filter is a Mag 350 canister with floss and carbon. Between the two, I think I'm covered.

i just bought a new hot magnum yesterday on ebay for 29.00 shipped sure cant beat that deal and a hot magnum is a real workhorse and does a great job.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I think I just may go with the Magnum 250 for its polishing capabilities. Now I just have to find a deal like Rod did and i'll be golden.
