Hello, I am fairly new to the world of fish care, and I have a problem...
One of my fan tailed goldfish has a 'blister' right in the fork of his/her tail, i would like to find out what this is so that i can treat him/her and the rest of my fishykins in the same tank.
If anyone can help please leave your input, I have also treated the tank for fungus such as Ich. And before I was able to treat
the tank, the blister had popped and has now returned in the very same place.

:help:Please help me!!!

Sincerely, CrownTailLover

Welcome to the AC.

Blisters like what you are describing can be different things.

Bacterial infection from a cut or scrape. Which is treatable with lots of water changes and some topical antibiotic.

Lymphosistis virus which is untreatable and generally not harmful although unsightly.

If the blister is red and inflamed I'd vote for the bacterial infection. If the blisters are translucent to white then it is probably lymphosistis virus.

Posting a picture will allow us to identify it easier.

Ich is not a fungus. The meds for one will not cure the other, with the exception of salt. You need to get a firm diagnosis before you add any medication to your tank. Without a pic diagnosis is extremely difficult. What color is the blister?

Goldfish need a lot of filtration and good water conditions. How long has your tank been running? Is it cycled? Do you check you're ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? Hey we all made major mistakes in the begining at least you're online trying to help you're fishies. How often and how much water do you exchange for water changes?

I would treat only the individuals that are having issues, rather than treat the entire tank. Some of your other fish may be perfectly fine so you don't want to dose them with medication if not necessary.

It is a clear blister, like a water blister, I had gone on vacation for a few weeks and left them in my aunts care with pre-dosed food and a feeding schedule, and when I returned this blister was on the fork of his/her tail, so I went to the local Petsmart and got a treatment for fungus(thats what they said it might be), so I then treated the tank and now two -three weeks later the blister is back...

My Tank has been running for two months now and I have no idea if it is cycled or not, i test regularly for ammonia and ph levels. The ammonia always runs a little high but within safe parameters. And the ph runs around 7.2.
I don' have the nitrite and nitrate tests yet, and i do about 50% water changes every couple weeks, if not more... Also I did this quite recently, like maybe last week...

Looks like some damage caused by a scrape/scratch or ammonia burn to me but the picture is blurry and hard to tell. It is likely NOT a fungus.

As usual from most pet stores they generally mislead you as to how much you need need to change the water. Increase your water changes to 50% every day or two to help it heal. Then do a 50% water change every week once it is healed up.

Other questions:

How big is the tank?

What other critters do you have in the tank (fish, snails, etc)?

What kind and brand of food are you feeding?

Are you testing with a liquid test or just the little paper strips?

If you can see if you can get a better shot of the goldfish. ..snicker... Just tell them to say cheese and hold still. ;)

they are living in a 55 gallon tank, and it is only the 5 goldfish a pleco and a marimo moss ball...
I feed them TetraFin sinking mini sticks, says on the label thats its good for exotic and ornamental goldfish, and also mashed peas that i myself prepare for my babies...
I had used the ammonia test strips when they were smaller and living in a smaller tank, but now i have the liquid tests for ammonia and ph only... i don't really understand nitrites and nitrates...
