I think I have super pond snails or something. In one tank, these guys are almost transparent. There is just a touch of brown (which is a spot not whole shell coloring). Not to mention that they are larger than what i would say is a typical pond snail.

And their antenea...well...they aren't slender. These puppies are short, stubby and thick. I would say that they are more like horns instead.

If they aren't different, then maybe water conditions or environment is playing a major factor in this transformation.

Very odd. Getting ready to try and get a couple shots of these buggers.

Here's a couple shots:

I think that the brown spot you can see in this pic may be his inerds as it (the brown) moves.

Check out the horns on this guy

There are many species of pond snails, though I don't really know the exact number.

But from the way you're describing yours, it sounds what you're calling "super pond snails" are pond snails, and your "typical pond snails" are actually bladder snails. The two are different families of snails, though they look very similar.

Im not all that familliar with the different types of pond snails, but it looks like it might be lymnia stagnalis just going by the pictures. I found this link on applesnail.net that gives some good pics of all different types of snails including ponds. Good luck with your ID. http://www.applesnail.net/content/snails_various.php#Lymnaeidae

Now isn't that something. All these years I thought I had pond snails and it turns out to be bladder snails?

Interesting. ;o)

These guys are pretty kewl looking but as usual....they will be an annoyance.
