So tonight I noticed that one of my female blackbar endlers hass a reddish wound beside her side fin. I am hoping and crossing my fingers that it is just an injury that will heal, but I am afraid it might be a symptom of a disease (Septicemia maybe?), so I could use advice on what you guys think it is and how I should treat it. Im not excited about the idea of dosing my tank unless I need to, but if it needs to be done then I will. This is a 10g tank, my water params are 0ammo, 0 nitrites, and nitrates about 20 ish..maybe a little less. Tank mates for the endlers are a few baby BNs (temporarily growing out) a few snails and 3 ghost shrimp. the water temp stays around 75 degrees give or take a degree or 2 depending on the time of day. I am going to post some pics of the wound. The fish is prego so thats not bloating, she is just fat with fry. Sorry the pics are not great, but my camera is crap and endlers are fast. Thanks so much in advance for any help. - Ash

Oh no! I wish I was better at fish disease.... hopefully she just hit something sharp, and it will heal up really fast.

Thanks green..I looked into it, but everything I found on gill flukes showed things on the actual gill of the fish. The wound on my fish is not near the gill, its behind the side fin. She also doesnt have any of the other symptoms of the disease that I read. Thanks again for trying though.

To update, she looks the same this morning....no other sypmtoms, no lethargy or hiding or anything, just the red spot behind the fin.

BUMP here is a picture of my harlequin with a more advanced but similar wound, hopefully someone can identify what it could be from either picture, not saying they are the same, but they look mightly similar and are in the same general area (NOT the gill)

My whole community tank had similar red slightly inflamed marks near their fins. They weren't acting strange at all just that it was red. I added a tablespoon of salt for every 5 gallons of water and although the redness has not completely gone away it has gotten better. They have been living like that for at least 2 1/2 weeks now and are fine. So IMHO just add a little salt and your fishy should be ok...

people are saying they can't see it in the first pics so here are a few more...hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff. I Don't have a clue if it is viral, bacterial, or parasitic, but from what I understand, trying to treat with salt might help regardless of which of those it is, so I have started treating with salt adding it slowly, keeping in mind that I have snails and baby BNs in this tank.l I hope this helps and doesnt kill any of my critters. I would still love to have answers or opinions as to what it may be, but in the mean time I will keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the hlep. - Ash

I didnt know Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia had made it to home aquaria yet.. I thought it was just the bacterial strains. I know it's in the wild in the US though...
